A Long Island man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after he drove the wrong way and caused a fatal motor vehicle crash, according to police.

Noel Pastora, age 56, of Hempstead, was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota westbound in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway (Route 27), west of Locust Avenue, in Oakdale when his vehicle struck an eastbound sedan around 1:50 a.m. Sunday, June 27, Suffolk County Police said.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Pastora was charged with driving while intoxicated. 

He was held at the Fifth Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, June 27.
